Fried Cabbage with Shrimp, Sausage & Bacon
Ingredients:
6 slices of bacon, chopped
1 lb smoked sausage (like Andouille or Kielbasa), sliced
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (optional for a bit of heat)
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
Cook the bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain on a paper towel, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.
Cook the sausage: Add the sliced sausage to the skillet with the bacon grease and cook for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set it aside with the bacon.
Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and are fully cooked. Remove the shrimp and set aside with the bacon and sausage.
Sauté the veggies: In the same skillet, add olive oil if needed, and sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and the peppers are tender.
Add the cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet and season with paprika, Cajun seasoning (if using), salt, and pepper. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
Combine everything: Return the cooked bacon, sausage, and shrimp to the skillet. Toss everything together and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through and combine the flavors.
Serve: Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot. Enjoy this hearty, flavorful dish on its own or with a side of rice or cornbread!
