This Asian-inspired dish combines the tenderness of beef, the sweetness of caramelized onions, and the umami flavors of a honey-soy sauce. Perfect for a tasty and quick dinner!
Ingredients: (for 4 people)
500 g beef (rump, tenderloin, or flank steak), cut into thin strips
2 onions, thinly sliced
3 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Ground black pepper (to taste)
Instructions:
Make the sauce: Mix the soy sauce, honey, and balsamic vinegar in a bowl. Set aside.
Caramelize the onions: Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté for 5-7 minutes until golden and slightly caramelized.
Add the garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Cook the beef: Increase the heat and add the beef strips. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until golden on the outside but still tender on the inside.
Stir in the sauce: Pour the reserved sauce over the beef and onions. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Season and serve: Season with pepper to taste and serve hot over rice or with fried noodles.
Tips:
Optional marinade: Marinate the beef in some of the soy sauce and honey for 30 minutes for even richer flavors.
Add vegetables: Stir in peppers or broccoli for a more complete and colorful dish.
Vegetarian variation: Replace the beef with firm tofu or seitan for a meat-free alternative.
