(A comforting dish of cabbage rolls stuffed with a flavorful meat and rice filling, simmered in a rich tomato sauce)
Ingredients:
For the cabbage leaves:
1 large green cabbage (head cabbage type)

For the stuffing:
500 g ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)

1 cup uncooked rice (about 200 g)

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

1 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the tomato sauce:
1 can crushed tomatoes (400 g)

1 tbsp. tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp olive oil

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp sugar (optional, to sweeten the sauce)

500 ml stock (vegetable or beef)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Remove the core from the cabbage and immerse it in a large pan of boiling salted water.
Blanch the leaves for 2-3 minutes until soft. Drain and let cool.

In a large bowl, mix the ground meat, raw rice, onion, garlic, egg, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to obtain a homogeneous stuffing.

Place a spoonful of stuffing in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides over the stuffing, then roll tightly into a cigar. Repeat until all the stuffing is used up.

In a large saucepan or casserole dish, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until tender.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, and broth. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Arrange the cabbage rolls side by side in the sauce, in one or two layers. Add a little water if necessary to cover the rolls.
Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 hour, checking from time to time that the sauce is not reducing too much.

Serve the cabbage rolls hot, topped with tomato sauce, with fresh bread or mashed potatoes. Enjoy this comforting and family-friendly dish!
